This collection of studies references the traditional rug knotting process. Before the carpet is crafted, the design is mapped out on a grid. Each square of the draft represents one knot. Through the repetitive process of knotting, the textile is formed. The series of knots directly translate the rigid draft, yet the carpet pile moves rhythmically, subverting its underlying structure. The studies pictured here visually explore the systems of knotted rugs to highlight the intersections of traditional craft and design.
